ejTalk (pronounced "edge talk") is a corporation founded with the goal of advancing automated conversation using speech technologies to create the conversational machine. We license our engine and consult on conversational applications.
Taking a conversational approach, instead of an application-based approach, is what makes ejTalk unique. Where most applications seek to create a specific product with a narrow focus and merely incorporate speech technology, ejTalk broadens the scope across conversation. We have created a powerful framework that makes it easier to create specific, compelling, natural speech applications.
ejTalk's focus is on managing the base, common sense principles of conversation. Most speech based systems today use simple state machines. The value of these state-transition systems lies in their simple and specific behavior. For very simple interactions (e.g. "what is the stock price for HP?") they are easy to program using existing computer languages. Adding even the beginnings of an open human-like interaction rapidly makes the task impractical.
"The point of philosophy is to start with something so simple as not to seem worth stating, and to end with something so paradoxical that no one will believe it."
- Bertrand Russell, The Philosophy of Logical Atomism
