ejTalk Presents - Bellagio, Italy

Emmett J. Coin presented an overview of ejTalk's highly object-oriented methodology for conversation management at the Third Workshop on Human-Computer Conversation in Bellagio, Italy - July 2000. The presentation titled "A Fundamental Architecture to Integrate Conversation Management Engines with Conversation Development and Evaluation Tools" describes ejTalk's extensive use of XML technologies to deal with the immense complexity of the next generation of conversant computer system.
The Human-Computer Workshop addresses many aspects of human computer language interaction. Contributors represent linguists, computational linguists, speech technologists, academics, and commercial developers. It is a small, focused group that has emerged in this important field that is dedicated to talking with the machine. The audience at Emmett's presentation was particularly interested in ejTalk's systematic use of XML technologies for communication between the key components of a working dialog system. Also, there were many positive comments about the Wizard of OZ
techniques that ejTalk uses to grow a conversational design. Further informal discussions delved into the truly object-oriented (OO) methodology used in the ejTalk CM Engine. Emmett was eager, as always, to promote the OO power of inheritance, polymorphism, and encapsulation for conversation design.
